BCFC bags first Ceres Cup

WITH TEAMWORK AND the heart that they were not playing only for themselves but for Bayawan City, our very young Bayawan Football Club showcased a very dominating kick-ass championship performance in the U-17 Category in the recently concluded 5th Ceres Cup 7 A-Side Football Festival in Talisay City, Negros Occidental on May 19 to 20, 2018. Bayawan FC reigned as Champion for the very first time. Made possible by the Ceres Negros Football Club, the annual football tournament provides football enthusiasts the grand opportunity to foster and exhibit true sportsmanship and allows team representatives of bigger clubs in the country to scout their future prospects. This year's MVP pride is 17 year-old Clyde Tuvalles of BNHS. Inspired by the unrelenting support of City Mayor Pryde Henry Teves, Bayawan FC is more than just our champion football team. It is a holistic sports program for young Bayawanon athletes inculcating time-honored values of sportsmanship and the making of great future leaders. Ibayaw ang Bayawan!

Bayawan LGU nominates ORFIA for Timbayayong Awards 2018

NEGROS ORIENTAL NETWORK of NGOs (NEGORNET) seriously considers the Small Water Impounding Project (SWIP) of Bayawan City's Ohot Rice Farmers Irrigators` Association (ORFIA) for this year's Timbayayong Awards-NEGORNET's annual province-wide search for best intervention projects by LGUs in partnership with NGOs and people's organizations (POs). Organized by rice farmers in Barangay Narra on November 19, 2016 and registered under the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), ORFIA is one of the many recipients of SWIP of Bayawan City LGU. With the overall purpose of establishing and promoting sustainable farming in rural communities through stabilized irrigation, SWIP is an efficient approach in the utilization and protection of soil and water resources in the hinterlands. With SWIP, local farmers are able to plant rice twice or thrice a year thus increasing production and income without any threat to the environment. Aside from these, ORFIA engages in diversified farming interests such as inland fish farming, vegetable production, and ornamental gardening as other income sources. Currently under the leadership of Mr. Bonifacio A. Bacang with a total membership of 28 (and 26 beneficiaries), ORFIA's partnership with Bayawan City LGU started in 2012 when KfW, a German development firm, extended a financial grant for Community-based Forest and Mangrove Management Project (CBFMMP) in Panay and Negros Island. NEGORNET lauds the SIP project under ORFIA's watch as it improves fish ponds and expands inland fish production, increases household income, alleviates the standard of living of its members, and develops inclusive marketing mechanisms and capacities while balancing natural resources. In view of the city's vision as the Top Farm Tourism City in the Philippines by 2020, City Mayor Pryde Henry A. Teves pledges his steadfast support to the nomination of ORFIA for Timbayayong Awards 2018. A farmer at heart, the City Mayor acknowledges that farming defines profoundly our rich cultural identity and heritage as very industrious Bayawanons. "Timbayayong," as the award is named, stems from "timba" (a ladle that is used to draw water from a well) and "yayong" (to share in carrying a load). As recognized, NEGORNET has been a trusted "katimabayayong" of the city goernment in shepherding its mission and collective goals through the years.
